Summary
Beginning April 15, 2013, Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services will immediately mail remittance advices to Medical Assistance providers instead of holding them until payment is issued. Providers must retain these remittance advices as documentation since receiving the advice does not mean payment has been issued yet.
Action Required
Beginning April 15, 2013: Billing team must establish new workflow to receive and file remittance advices immediately upon receipt, understanding they arrive before actual payment. Train staff that remittance advice receipt does not indicate payment has been issued. Monitor Illinois Comptroller's website for actual payment status.
