Summary
Effective January 1, 2014, CPT code 92506 for speech therapy evaluation was replaced with 15 new, more specific speech evaluation codes. All speech evaluations must continue to be billed in 15-minute increments, with special billing rules for add-on codes 92608 and 92618.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update system to replace discontinued CPT 92506 with appropriate new speech evaluation codes (92520-92627, 96105, 96110, 96111, 96125). Continue billing in 15-minute increments (1 unit = 15 minutes). For add-on codes 92608 and 92618, bill only 2 units (30 min) or 4 units (60 min). Update encounter forms with new codes. Note that codes marked with asterisk are not covered for adults age 21 and over.
