Summary
Healthcare billing must transition from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM diagnosis and procedure codes for all claims with service dates on or after October 1, 2015. Claims cannot mix both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes and will be rejected if they do.
Action Required
By October 1, 2015: Billing team must update all systems to use ICD-10-CM codes instead of ICD-9-CM codes for claims with service dates on or after this date. Update paper claim forms HFS 2210, 2211, and 2212 to revised versions (R-2-15). Split claims that span October 1, 2015 based on service dates pre- and post-implementation. Ensure no claims contain both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes as these will be rejected.
