Conversion from International Classifications of Disease (ICD)-9 to ICD-10 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Vendor Programming Delay
Illinois Medicaid - HFS·IL · Geriatrics·Provider Notice
Effective date

We identified it

Summary
Long-term care facilities must convert from ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes for all current residents by October 1, 2015, using the Medicaid Electronic Data Interchange (MEDI) system during the transition period July 1 - September 30, 2015. EDI vendors may not have completed programming to handle both code sets during this period, so facilities should use MEDI for new admissions if their EDI vendor lacks the required ICD-9/ICD-10 fields.
Action Required
By September 30, 2015: Long-term care facilities must update all current residents' ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes using MEDI system. Check EDI vendor's 'Admissions' screen for ICD-9 and ICD-10 fields - if absent, use MEDI for new admissions during July 1 - September 30, 2015 transition period. Failure to convert by October 1, 2015 may result in unsuccessful claim transactions.
