Summary
Beginning October 1, 2015, all transportation providers must include a diagnosis code on 837P electronic claims submissions. If the diagnosis is unknown, providers can use the default ICD-10-CM code R69 (Illness, unspecified).
Action Required
By October 1, 2015: Transportation providers must update billing systems to require diagnosis codes on all 837P claims. Use treating physician's diagnosis code in loop 2300 segment HI*ABK when available. When diagnosis is unknown, enter default code R69.
