Summary
Effective January 1, 2016, HCPCS code G0154 for home health nursing services is being replaced with two separate codes: G0299 for registered nurse (RN) services and G0300 for licensed practical nurse (LPN) services. Home health agencies must update their billing to use the specific RN or LPN codes for all services provided on or after January 1, 2016.
Action Required
Immediately: Stop using HCPCS code G0154 for home health nursing services. Use G0299 for registered nurse services and G0300 for licensed practical nurse services for all dates of service January 1, 2016 and after. Update billing software to reflect new codes. For existing approvals spanning January 1, 2016, respond to HFS letters requesting breakdown of RN vs LPN visits and fax responses to 217-558-4359 (intermittent nursing) or 217-524-6948 (shift nursing). For new prior approval requests, use separate sections for pre-2016 dates (G0154) and post-2016 dates (G0299/G0300).
