Summary
Illinois Medicaid now requires prior approval for all non-emergency Specialty Care Transportation (SCT) services provided by ambulance providers, effective May 1, 2016. Prior approvals must be requested through fax to First Transit, and post-approvals are available for services within 20 business days of transport.
Action Required
By May 1, 2016: Ambulance providers must obtain prior approval for all non-emergency SCT by faxing Single Trip Form and supporting documentation to First Transit at 630-873-1450. Document patient condition exceeds ALS2 level, transport is inter-facility, care beyond EMT-Paramedic level, and meets advanced airway or IV medication criteria. For past services within 20 days, request post-approval from HFS billing consultants at 1-877-782-5565, option 3, option 3. Services without prior approval will have miles and oxygen claims rejected.
