Summary
Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) must now be billed using HCPCS code J8499 instead of S4993 for all dates of service June 1, 2016 and after. This billing code change affects fee-for-service reimbursement only.
Action Required
By June 1, 2016: Billing team must update billing system to use HCPCS code J8499 for all Emergency Contraceptive Pills instead of S4993. Update encounter forms and billing software rules to reflect the new code. Claims billed with S4993 after June 1, 2016 will not be reimbursed.
