Summary

Illinois is transitioning from existing Medicaid managed care plans to a new program called HealthChoice Illinois effective January 1, 2018. Five health plans (Aetna Better Health, Community Care Alliance, Family Health Network, Humana Health Plan, and Cigna-HealthSpring) are exiting and must continue paying outstanding claims even after December 31, 2017.

By December 31, 2017: Illinois providers should continue submitting claims to exiting Medicaid plans (Aetna Better Health, Community Care Alliance, Family Health Network, Humana Health Plan, and Cigna-HealthSpring) as normal through the transition. After January 1, 2018: Update billing systems to reflect new HealthChoice Illinois managed care contracts. Monitor payment of outstanding claims from exiting plans - they remain obligated to pay verified claims even after exit date.
