Summary
Effective October 1, 2018, providers can no longer use CPT code 99070 for office-dispensed items and supplies. Instead, they must use specific HCPCS codes for each item, with cost invoices still required for pricing.
Action Required
Immediately: Stop using CPT code 99070 for office-dispensed items and supplies. Update billing software to use specific HCPCS codes from the approved list for physicians/APNs, or A9999 for podiatrists when specific codes aren't available. Continue attaching cost invoices to paper claims (HFS 2360 for physicians/APNs, HFS 1443 for podiatrists). Claims with 99070 after October 1, 2018 will be rejected and require resubmission with correct HCPCS codes.
