Summary
Effective January 1, 2019, all audiology services provided to students in school-based health programs require a physician or licensed practitioner referral. The referral must be updated annually and maintained in the student's health record.

Before January 1, 2019: School-based health services billing teams must update workflows to require physician or licensed practitioner referral for all audiology services. Establish annual referral renewal process and ensure referrals are maintained in student health records. Claims without proper referrals will be denied for dates of service on or after January 1, 2019.
