Summary
Illinois is expanding the Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative (MMAI) statewide effective January 1, 2021, combining Medicare Parts A, B, D and Medicaid benefits into single managed care plans. Providers are strongly encouraged to contract with MMAI plan networks to ensure continuity of care for dual-eligible patients and receive timely payments.
Action Required
Before February 2020: Contact participating MMAI health plans to join their provider networks. Billing team should identify dual-eligible Medicare-Medicaid patients and verify which MMAI plans they may enroll in. Update payor information systems to accommodate new MMAI plan structures and streamlined reimbursement processes.
