Summary
Illinois Medicaid added 11 new dental CDT codes effective January 1, 2020, including new space maintainer codes that replace D1550, metallic and ceramic onlay codes for multiple surfaces, and specialized crown codes for titanium alloys. A revised dental fee schedule is available on the state website.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update dental billing system to include the 11 new CDT codes (D1551-D1553, D2542-D2544, D2642-D2644, D2753, D4249, D6753) for Illinois Medicaid claims. Stop using old code D1550 for space maintainers and use the appropriate new codes D1551-D1553 instead. Download revised fee schedule from Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services website.
