Summary
Effective January 1, 2021, providers of durable medical equipment and supplies for Medicaid fee-for-service patients are no longer required to confirm monthly orders via live phone calls. Electronic verification systems are now acceptable if they document the confirmation details and personnel involved.
Action Required
By January 1, 2021: DME billing teams may implement electronic verification systems for monthly supply orders instead of live phone confirmation. If using electronic systems, update documentation procedures to capture confirming person's name, provider employee name, and confirmation date. Review and replace Topic M-205 page in provider handbook with updated version from Department website.
