Summary
Illinois is expanding the Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative (MMAI) statewide effective July 1, 2021, allowing dual-eligible beneficiaries in all Illinois counties to receive Medicare and Medicaid benefits through a single plan. Providers are strongly encouraged to contract with MMAI plan networks as soon as possible to ensure participation and timely payment.
Action Required
Before July 1, 2021: Providers should contact MMAI plan networks to establish contracts for dual-eligible patient coverage. Billing team should verify which patients are enrolled in MMAI plans and ensure proper billing procedures for the integrated Medicare-Medicaid benefits.
