Summary

Starting December 1, 2021, Illinois Medicaid now covers services provided by Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPCs) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs). These providers can now enroll in the Medical Assistance Program and receive reimbursement for diagnostic, therapeutic, and certain community-based mental health services.

Immediately: Billing team must verify LCPC and LMFT providers enroll in IMPACT system with correct Provider Type 'Behavior Health Services' and appropriate specialty codes. Note that fee-for-service claims with dates of service from December 1, 2021 will be held until system programming is completed. For HealthChoice Illinois members, contact the specific Managed Care Health Plan for billing instructions.
