Summary
Effective April 1, 2022, new Modifier 93 must be used for audio-only telehealth services (replacing some uses of GT modifier), and new Place of Service code 10 must be used for telehealth services provided to patients in their homes. POS 02 description changes to 'Telehealth Provided Other than in Patient's Home'.
Action Required
By April 1, 2022: Billing team must update billing software to use Modifier 93 for all audio-only telehealth services (telephone or real-time interactive audio-only systems). Continue using Modifier GT only for audio-video telehealth services. Update system to use POS code 10 for telehealth services when patient is at home, and POS 02 for telehealth services when patient is not at home. Train staff on proper modifier and POS code selection for telehealth claims.
