Summary
Illinois Medicaid now covers behavioral health services provided by sub-clinical professionals (those with master's/doctoral degrees working toward licensure) in FQHCs when supervised by qualified licensed professionals. Claims can be submitted retroactively to January 1, 2024.

By February 5, 2025 (180 days from notice): FQHCs should submit claims for behavioral health services provided by sub-clinical professionals dating back to January 1, 2024. Billing team must ensure proper documentation of supervision by psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, or licensed behavioral health professionals (LCP, LCSW, LCPC, LMFT). Update billing procedures to include sub-clinical provider credentials and supervision verification.
