Summary
Starting January 1, 2026, Illinois Medicaid will limit prior authorization requirements for FDA-approved hemophilia drugs to no more than every 6 months or the length of the prescription validity, whichever is shorter. This applies to both fee-for-service and managed care organizations under Public Act 103-0659.
Action Required
Before January 1, 2026: Billing team must update prior authorization tracking systems for hemophilia drug therapies to reflect new 6-month minimum approval periods. Update staff training materials to inform providers that hemophilia drug prior auths cannot be required more frequently than 6 months.
