Summary
Maryland Medicaid now allows audiologists to bill the state directly for services to children under 21 enrolled in HealthChoice MCOs, eliminating the need for preauthorization or referrals from MCOs/PCPs (except for specific services like hearing aids and ABR testing). This change provides direct billing access and includes a comprehensive fee schedule for audiology services under the EPSDT program.
Action Required
Immediately: Audiology providers must register with Maryland Medicaid Program to obtain provider number for direct billing. Update billing system to bill state directly for audiology services to children under 21 in HealthChoice MCOs instead of billing through MCOs. Continue to obtain preauthorization for hearing aids (X0105), ABR testing for ages 1+ (92585), and unlisted services (X0099, X0199). Ensure communication with patient's PCP is documented for coordination of care.
