Summary
Maryland Medicaid will implement interchangeable drug cost (IDC) pricing for clozapine tablets, reducing reimbursement from brand name rates to generic rates. Prescribers and pharmacies must register patients with generic manufacturer registries (Zenith-Goldline or Mylan) and consistently dispense the same manufacturer's product.
Action Required
By May 1, 2001: Prescribers must register all clozapine patients with either Zenith-Goldline (1-800-507-8334) or Mylan (1-800-843-9915) registry. Pharmacies must register as distribution centers with the chosen generic company and consistently dispense the same manufacturer's product for each patient. All blood work must be sent to the patient's registered manufacturer. Update billing systems to reflect new reimbursement rates: $2.50 per 100mg tablet and $1.00 per 25mg tablet plus dispensing fee.
