Summary
Maryland expanded MCHP (Children's Health Program) to cover children in families earning 200-300% of federal poverty level, providing secondary insurance coverage for pharmacy benefits with no co-payments. Pharmacies must bill primary insurance first, then bill FHSC for any remaining cost-sharing amounts using the PA/MC field.
Action Required
Effective July 1, 2001: Pharmacy staff must update billing procedures for MCHP Premium patients - first bill the primary pharmacy insurance, then when co-pay/deductible/coinsurance is requested, bill the prescription online through FHSC placing the cost-sharing amount in the PA/MC field. Contact FHSC Call Center at 1-800-884-3238 for processing issues.
