Summary
Maryland Medicaid is changing billing codes for Maryland Healthy Kids preventive care services to comply with HIPAA. Providers must switch from old 'W' codes (W9075, W9077, W9078) to standard CPT preventive medicine codes (99381-99385 for new patients, 99391-99395 for established patients) for all services performed on or after October 1, 2002.
Action Required
By October 1, 2002: Billing team must update billing system to use new CPT preventive medicine codes (99381-99385 for new patients, 99391-99395 for established patients) instead of W codes (W9075, W9077, W9078) for all Maryland Healthy Kids preventive care services. Update encounter forms and train staff on age-appropriate code selection. Continue using W codes only for services performed through September 30, 2002. Enhanced rates for W codes will not be active after October 1, 2002.
