Summary
Maryland Medical Assistance Program is transitioning from local substance abuse billing codes (DA100-DA107) to new HIPAA-compliant procedure codes for halfway houses and long-term residential treatment centers. The old local codes will be deactivated after September 30, 2003, and providers must use the new standardized codes for all services performed on or after October 1, 2003.

By September 30, 2003: Billing teams at halfway houses and long-term residential treatment centers must update billing systems to use new HIPAA-compliant procedure codes instead of local codes DA100-DA107 for all substance abuse services. Update billing software, encounter forms, and train staff on new code requirements. Failure to transition will result in claim rejections as local codes will be deactivated after September 30, 2003.
