Summary
Maryland Medicaid now allows reimbursement for durable medical equipment and disposable medical supplies provided to institutionalized patients who are pending discharge to home, when the equipment facilitates discharge and supports home care. Preauthorization requests must include a discharge plan and anticipated discharge date, with service dates no more than 14 days prior to discharge.
Action Required
Immediately: DME/DMS providers serving Maryland Medicaid patients must update preauthorization request procedures to include written discharge plans and anticipated discharge dates for institutionalized patients. Ensure service/delivery dates are within 14 days of anticipated discharge (exceptions allowed for pre-discharge training with documentation). Contact DMS/DME staff at 410-767-1739 for questions.
