Summary
Maryland Medicaid now requires home accessibility assessments for power wheelchairs, tilt-in-space wheelchairs, and rigid-frame wheelchairs. Providers must document that the recipient's home can accommodate the equipment and submit assessment forms with authorization requests.
Action Required
Before January 1, 2006: Providers must complete home accessibility assessments for all power wheelchair, tilt-in-space wheelchair, and rigid-frame wheelchair requests. Use the Maryland Medical Assistance Program Home Assessment Questionnaire or equivalent form that captures the same information. Document home accessibility, main living area access, and alternative arrangements if areas are inaccessible. Submit completed assessments with all authorization requests for these wheelchair types. Requests without proper home assessments will not be approved.
