Summary
Effective October 1, 2007, all written prescriptions for Medicaid outpatients must be on tamper-resistant prescription pads with at least one security feature (copying prevention, modification prevention, or counterfeit prevention). By October 1, 2008, all three security features will be required.
Action Required
By October 1, 2007: All providers prescribing to Medicaid patients must obtain tamper-resistant prescription pads with at least one security feature from approved vendors. By October 1, 2008: Prescription pads must have all three security features. Pharmacists must verify non-compliant prescriptions with prescribers and document verification. Non-compliance will result in non-reimbursement by Medicaid except for 72-hour emergency supplies.
