Summary
Maryland Medicaid will begin enrolling Physician Assistants (PAs) as providers and reimbursing them directly starting July 1, 2015. PAs can now bill Medicaid independently using CMS 1500 forms at physician fee schedule rates.
Action Required
Before July 1, 2015: Physician Assistants must enroll as Maryland Medicaid providers by downloading applications from dhmh.maryland.gov/providerinfo or calling 410-767-5340. Submit completed applications to Provider Enrollment at P.O. Box 17030, Baltimore, MD 21203. Ensure PAs have valid NPIs. Update billing processes to allow PAs to bill independently on CMS 1500 forms using physician fee schedule rates.
