Summary
Maryland Medicaid will continue reimbursing telehealth therapy services (Speech, Physical, Occupational Therapy, and Nutrition) post-emergency period under Senate Bill 3. All telehealth claims must be billed with the GT modifier for audio-visual delivery only; audio-only services and codes not on the approved list will not be reimbursed.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update billing system to append GT modifier to all telehealth therapy claims for Maryland Medicaid patients (Speech Therapy codes 92507-92633, Physical Therapy codes 97161-97750, Occupational Therapy codes 97165-97530, and Nutrition codes 97802-97804). Remove any therapy telehealth codes not on the approved list from telehealth billing workflows. Reject or convert any audio-only therapy service submissions to in-person billing. Update provider encounter forms and telehealth workflows to enforce audio-visual delivery requirement. Train all billing staff and providers that Maryland Medicaid will deny all telehealth therapy claims without GT modifier, with audio-only delivery, or using non-approved codes. Verify patient insurance eligibility for Maryland Medicaid before applying these rules.
