Summary

Maryland Medicaid now extends dental coverage for postpartum women through either 60 days postpartum (through January 31 of the following year if delivery is November 15) or, effective April 1, 2022, through the twelfth month following pregnancy end. Billing teams must include specific ICD-10 diagnosis codes (Z3A.00 for pregnant, Z39.2 for postpartum) on all MHSDP dental claims or claims will be denied.

Action Required

Action needed
By November 15, 2021: Billing team must update claim submission procedures and billing software to REQUIRE ICD-10 diagnosis code Z39.2 (postpartum status) on all dental claims for Maryland Medicaid MHSDP members in their postpartum period, and Z3A.00 for pregnant members. Providers submitting claims to SKYGEN USA must include these codes on the CDT claim form. Train all billing and clinical staff that claims submitted without appropriate diagnosis codes will be denied. Coordinate with SKYGEN USA Provider Services (844-275-8753) for verification of member eligibility status shown on the IVR system as 'MD Dental ONLY if Pregnant or Postpartum Adult 21+'. Failure to include these codes will result in automatic claim denials.
