Summary
Maryland Medicaid is HALTING the previously mandated transition of Chronic Hospital providers (Type 05) to Special Other Acute Hospital providers (Type 06). Chronic hospitals must CONTINUE using their existing provider numbers and current billing procedures. The LTC span/257 approval process remains in effect. No transition will occur until further guidance is issued.
Action Required
IMMEDIATE: Billing team must STOP any ongoing transition preparations to enroll as Provider Type 06 (Special Other Acute Hospital). Continue submitting all claims using existing Chronic Hospital (Provider Type 05) provider numbers and current billing procedures with LTC stay approval (257 certification) requirements intact. Notify all relevant staff, providers, and billing contacts that the June 1, 2023 transition deadline is CANCELLED. Do NOT implement any Provider Type 06 billing workflows. Maintain current authorization procedures until Maryland Medicaid issues new guidance.
