Summary
Effective January 1, 2024, the Maryland Medical Assistance Program now permits medical orders for Medical Day Care services to be electronically signed and submitted to the LTSSMaryland enrollment system. Providers must implement safeguards against modification of electronically signed orders and ensure all signatures comply with federal and state standards. Both the signer and provider assume full responsibility for the authenticity of information in electronically signed medical orders.
Action Required
By March 31, 2024: Billing and administrative staff must implement electronic signature procedures for Medical Day Care medical orders submitted to LTSSMaryland. Specific actions: (1) Update Medical Day Care order templates to support electronic signatures in the billing system or documentation platform; (2) Configure system controls to prevent unauthorized modification of electronically signed orders; (3) Ensure all providers and staff members signing orders understand they are accepting full responsibility for authenticity and must verify federal/state signature compliance; (4) Document the electronic signature method used and maintain audit trails.
