Summary

Maryland nursing facilities must now report staff flu vaccination data exclusively through the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) instead of the Maryland Health Care Commission. The NHSN data retrieved on May 15th each year will be the sole source for Pay-for-Performance program calculations. Facilities must submit updated flu vaccination data between April 1st and May 15th annually, as submissions after May 15th will not be included in P4P scoring.

Action Required

Action needed
By May 15, 2024 and annually thereafter: Nursing facility administrators must ensure staff flu vaccination data is accurately entered and submitted to the CDC's NHSN system between April 1st and May 15th of each reporting year. Failure to report or submit data after the May 15th deadline will result in zero points toward the facility's Pay-for-Performance staff flu vaccination score, impacting P4P and Pay for Improvement awards. Designate responsible staff members to manage NHSN reporting and verify data accuracy before the May 15th cutoff. Do not rely on previous MHCC reporting processes—transition all flu vaccination reporting to NHSN exclusively.
