Maryland Medicaid will no longer reimburse for STEPS assessments except for PASRR Level II Evaluations.

Action Required

Action needed
By February 3, 2025: Billing team must cease billing for STEPS assessments for all purposes except PASRR Level II Evaluations. Update billing system to reject or route STEPS assessment claims for non-PASRR purposes. Coordinate with Local Health Departments to ensure they are using interRAI Home Care (iHC) or interRAI Pediatric HC for all comprehensive evaluations. Verify that all claims submitted for evaluations after February 3, 2025 reference the correct assessment tool. Claims submitted with STEPS assessments (outside PASRR Level II) will be denied and not reimbursed by Maryland Medicaid.
