Summary
Maryland Medicaid has updated the Maryland Prenatal Risk Assessment (MPRA) to require providers to inform patients that their assessment information may be shared with their local health department (LHD) for service referrals. Previously, MPRA could not be shared between different LHD units; this change enables cross-unit sharing to improve efficiency and reduce duplicate assessments. This supersedes MCO Transmittal No. 155 from April 2022.
Action Required
By February 3, 2025 (immediately): (1) Providers and clinical staff administering the MPRA must read the updated disclosure statement to all pregnant patients prior to assessment completion: 'Information from this assessment may be shared with your local health department to help connect you to services.' (2) Update all MPRA forms in paper and electronic formats to include the new consent language. (3) Billing and compliance teams should update patient consent documentation procedures to reflect the new information-sharing policy with LHDs. (4) MCO contracted prenatal providers must continue forwarding completed MPRA to the local health department within 10 days as required by COMAR 10.67.04.08.
