Summary
Maryland Medicaid is aligning DME/DMS units of service (UOS) limits with CMS's National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs) effective January 1, 2026. UOS limits will be increased, decreased, or remain unchanged based on specific criteria comparing current Maryland limits to MUE thresholds and historical claim patterns. A new DME/DMS fee schedule will be published before the effective date.
Action Required
By December 31, 2025: Billing team must obtain and review the updated Maryland Medicaid DME/DMS fee schedule (to be posted on the Community Support Services web page under Approved Item List) to identify which specific DME/DMS codes have changed UOS limits. For each affected code, update billing software system to enforce the new UOS limits and prevent overbilling. Providers must verify that all claims submitted on or after January 1, 2026 comply with the revised UOS limits. Contact MDH.DCSS@maryland.gov or 410-767-7479 with questions. Failure to update systems may result in claim denials for quantities exceeding the new UOS limits.
