Summary

CMS requires hospitals and critical access hospitals to provide written and verbal notice to Medicare beneficiaries receiving outpatient observation services lasting more than 24 hours. All facilities must use the updated Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice (MOON) form CMS-10611 by April 27, 2023.

By April 27, 2023: Hospital staff must implement the updated MOON form (CMS-10611) for all Medicare beneficiaries in outpatient observation status exceeding 24 hours. Download the current form from CMS and train staff to provide both written and verbal notice. This applies to Medicare patients and Medicare Advantage enrollees.
