Summary
Pennsylvania Medicaid is transitioning from local procedure codes (W-codes) to national procedure codes for renal dialysis services effective November 1, 2005. Providers must use the new national codes and modifiers for all services rendered on or after this date, or claims will be denied or paid incorrectly.
Action Required
By November 1, 2005: Billing team must stop using local W-codes (W0918-W0928, W0982) and switch to the corresponding national procedure codes with required modifiers for all renal dialysis services. Update billing system with the crosswalk mapping provided in the policy attachment. Services before October 31, 2005 must use old local codes; services November 1, 2005 and after must use new national codes. Failure to use correct national codes and modifiers will result in claim denials or inappropriate payments.
