Summary
Pennsylvania Medicaid has updated EPSDT newborn screening codes, replacing discontinued codes 99431 and 99435 with new codes 99460 and 99463 for inpatient newborn examinations. This change reflects 2009 HCPCS updates that became effective June 14, 2010.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must stop using discontinued codes 99431 and 99435 for newborn EPSDT screens. Update billing system to use code 99460 for newborn screens performed in hospital but not on discharge date, and code 99463 for newborn screens performed on the same day as hospital discharge. Update encounter forms and provider documentation templates to reflect new codes.
