Summary

Pennsylvania is implementing a Statewide Preferred Drug List (PDL) effective January 1, 2020, that will standardize preferred/non-preferred drug statuses and prior authorization requirements across both Fee-for-Service and managed care Medical Assistance programs. This creates uniform prior authorization guidelines for prescription drugs that previously varied between different managed care organizations.

Action Required

Action needed
By January 1, 2020: All prescribers and pharmacies enrolled in Pennsylvania Medical Assistance must refer to the new Statewide PDL at www.papdl.com for preferred/non-preferred drug statuses. Update prior authorization request procedures to follow the standardized guidelines that now apply to both Fee-for-Service and managed care delivery systems. Contact individual MCOs for their specific prior authorization request procedures as these may differ from Fee-for-Service processes.
