Summary

Medical Assistance (Medicaid) providers are prohibited from charging beneficiaries for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used during medical or dental services. Any providers who have already charged for PPE must refund those payments to beneficiaries.

Immediately: Stop charging Medicaid patients for PPE (masks, gloves, gowns) used during any medical or dental services. Billing team must remove any PPE charges from billing system and encounter forms. Front desk staff should not collect PPE fees from Medicaid patients. Any providers who have previously charged Medicaid beneficiaries for PPE must issue refunds or credits to those patients.
