Summary
Michigan created a new Medicaid eligibility category called Flint Water Group (FWG) for pregnant women and children up to age 21 affected by the Flint water crisis, with income up to 400% FPL. Applications begin May 9, 2016, and beneficiaries receive full Medicaid coverage with no premiums.
Action Required
By May 9, 2016: Billing team must update eligibility verification procedures to recognize new Flint Water Group category in CHAMPS system. Look for MAGI categories beginning with 'F' and benefit plan 'TCMF' during eligibility checks. Train front desk staff to identify eligible patients who consumed Flint water between April 1, 2014 and when water is deemed safe.
