Summary
Michigan Medicaid establishes training and certification requirements for Peer Mentors serving beneficiaries with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Only certified Peer Mentors can bill using the designated Peer Mentor Code after completing required training through the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council.
Action Required
By January 1, 2017: Billing teams at Michigan practices serving intellectual/developmental disability patients must verify Peer Mentor certification before processing claims with Peer Mentor Code. Only use billing code after individual completes Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council training and 90-120 hour supervised internship. Claims with uncertified Peer Mentors will not be reimbursed.
