Summary
Michigan Medicaid now requires PACER numbers for all transfers from acute care hospitals to Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals (LTACHs), treating these as hospital discharges and new admissions. Providers must obtain retroactive PACER numbers for LTACH admissions from October 1, 2015 onward by February 1, 2017.
Action Required
By February 1, 2017: Billing team must request retroactive PACER numbers from the ACRC for all LTACH admissions on or after October 1, 2015. Update billing procedures to ensure all future LTACH transfers include PACER numbers in the treatment authorization field and Occurrence Span Code 71 with dates from previous admission. Acute care hospitals must obtain PACER numbers before discharging patients to LTACHs. Claims without PACER numbers will not be complete.
