Summary
Michigan Medicaid expanded primary care physician eligibility to include general medicine specialists for enhanced payment rates, effective January 1, 2018. Physicians with primary specialty designations of family medicine, general internal medicine, pediatric medicine, and now general medicine will receive increased payment for qualified primary care services.
Action Required
By January 1, 2018: Billing team must verify that physicians with general medicine primary specialty designation in CHAMPS Provider Enrollment profiles are properly configured to receive enhanced primary care payment rates. Review the separate fee schedule published on the MDHHS website for qualified procedure codes. Ensure provider enrollment profiles accurately reflect primary specialty designations to receive proper reimbursement.
