Summary
Starting November 1, 2018, Michigan Medicaid will accept genetic test orders from Physician Assistants (PAs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), expanding beyond physician-only ordering. When billing genetic tests ordered by PAs or APRNs, the ordering provider field must identify the PA or APRN, not a supervising physician.

By November 1, 2018: Update billing procedures to accept genetic test orders from PAs and APRNs for Michigan Medicaid patients. Ensure billing staff identify the PA or APRN as the ordering/referring provider on claims instead of supervising physicians.
