Summary

Michigan Medicaid now requires DME providers to use the KX modifier on claims for durable medical equipment that requires face-to-face visits, indicating that policy requirements are met and documentation is on file. Home Health Agencies providing DMEPOS must now enroll as DME providers with Medicaid except for routine supplies.

Action Required

Action needed
Before 2019 (exact date TBD): Billing team must append KX modifier to all HCPCS codes for DME requiring face-to-face visits per CMS list. Ensure face-to-face documentation is obtained and filed before adding KX modifier. HHAs providing DMEPOS must enroll as DME providers with Michigan Medicaid. Failure to use KX modifier will result in claim denials starting in 2019.
