Summary
Michigan Medicaid now covers Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) services and updates collaborative practice agreement requirements for both CNS and Nurse Practitioners. CNS must enroll in Medicaid with individual NPIs and maintain valid collaborative agreements with Medicaid-enrolled physicians.
Action Required
Before June 1, 2019: Any Clinical Nurse Specialists providing services to Medicaid patients must complete Medicaid enrollment in CHAMPS with individual NPIs and associate with collaborating physician NPIs. Billing team must ensure CNS claims include CNS NPI in Rendering Provider field and collaborating physician NPI in Supervising Provider field. Update collaborative practice agreements to include required elements and maintain at primary practice location.
