Summary

Michigan Medicaid updated documentation requirements for home oxygen therapy, requiring current pO2 or oxygen saturation levels on room air for initial prescriptions, six-month recertifications, and annual renewals. The policy clarifies when new lab tests are required versus when previous test results can be documented.

Action Required

Action needed
By December 1, 2019: Providers must ensure all home oxygen therapy prescriptions include current pO2 or oxygen saturation levels while patient is on room air. For six-month recertifications, obtain new lab tests and document results with test date on Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN). For annual recertifications, document most recent test results and dates on CMN (new testing only required if oxygen level or delivery system changes). Update EMR templates to include required documentation fields.
