Summary
Michigan nursing facilities can now temporarily use additional bed types and configurations to respond to COVID-19 without prior approval, including placing Medicaid residents in Medicare-certified beds and using previously non-available beds. These flexibilities are effective immediately through April 2020 or until the state emergency order ends.
Action Required
Immediately: Nursing facilities serving Medicaid beneficiaries may implement flexible bed usage options without prior approval. Facilities must notify MDHHS Long Term Care Reimbursement and Rate Setting Section in writing within 30 days if using non-available beds, or the non-available bed plan will be negated to the original effective date. Submit Medicaid bed certification requests after the emergency order ends with retroactive effective dates.
